DAY 232: November 18, 2010; THURSDAY

243 (and then some)
Days of "Strawberry Jam" without "J"

Dear Jam,

We are just exhausted, you and I. The heat in Kauswagan is just unbearable, you had to wake up when you would have wanted more time to sleep and I, for the lack of sleep, could just feel the warmth bearing down on me. So as we took a taxi home, we were both groggy and unsteady on our feet. I thank you for being so cooperative, you were such a good girl and gave me no troubles at all.
You were quite alert as soon as you gained balance inside the house where the humidity couldn't reach us. You were eager to repeat after me during wash time in the bathroom when I said "Atubang" which means "Face front!" in Visayan. You almost got it with your "Atbang", which in fact is another Visayan word that means "front" - not bad, it's similar in a way. You also finally spoke the word "push". Perfectly. You were pushing my leg away from a spot where you wanted nothing but yourself to occupy. Why? Because you were busy going over your clothes again.

It wasn't until we got home that we actually got to go over our parcel from Antilo. You were such a joy to watch! You took out your new clothes from the folded pile I have set aside only to fold them yourself, your own way. Then your proceeded to line up your Baby wash bottles up to see how they look like together. Are we excited to try them? I am excited to try AVON's Kid's Punch Bubble Bath. It looks so yummy, doesn't it? Then you and I relished the scent that clings to clothes packed with in a box of toiletries and perfumes. It was your idea, smelling your dresses, making that look of heavenly satisfaction and then told me "Mommy, abol". You gestured for me to wrap it around myself as a blanket then we both took in the pleasant scent of flowers, fruits, and candies. My word, were you were eager to put the toothpaste in and out of it's box. I just find it so amusing with all the facial expression that you have, I feel like it's a struggle for you and a challenge that must be had! You were just giving the box and the toothpaste the "ggr!" Hahaha! You and I have just been acquainted to NI HAO, a Nick Jr. character from Nickelodeon, which may be, according to Nahnang a distant Chinese relative of DORA The EXPLORER, coming from the same network. I just have to say that your Antilo has a fine taste in fashion. It runs in the blood, so it shouldn't be a shock why you are so good with mixing-and-matching.

Before we left for work, you did some remarkable and unforgettable antics. One was with the cabinet. It was more of a reaction than antic really. I just hope I don't have to blame SPIRITS OF THE FOREST for this. I was turning the TV off when I felt you cling at me, running away from the cabinet. Looking at it, you said "Hawa! Ssh! Hawa!". I was puzzling at the same time mildly terrified, looking at the window and deduced that you may have seen something. When my eyes finally fell on the culprit, I realized that the cabinet was gaping ajar with the bag full of makeup. I laughed, to realize that I hadn't closed it properly with the bag tumbling down, pushing the unclosed door open - like a phantom would, as you may have thought it. I explained to you that it was nothing. When you understood it, you braved to pry the door open and perhaps overcame the fear encouraged by that little happenchance.

The other one is how you managed to balance my phone on the table. You were so happy, everytime you were succesful, you cheered yourself. Now I applaud you too because I also consider it to be an achievement. My phone is tricky without a flat bottom and how you managed to put it up is a feat in itself! Good Job Pumpkin! ;)

Surprise upon surprise was waiting for you at the FoodHauz. Mamala bought you new sets...yes, sets of toys! You have a kitchen set, a cat bowling set (which is cute because the pinheads are of Bast's, the Egyptian Cat God who protects the Underworld), and a sandcastle-shovel set. Damn! You are spoiled aren't you? In one week, you get Mamilou, Antilo and Mamala to give you presents! But the good thing is, you didn't ask for them. Yet. I hope this wouldn't prove to be a problem when you're big enough to realize that they would obey your every whim with the snap of your fingers. Now that's when I will impose, you can count on that, sweetheart! ;)

ACCORDING TO MAMALA:
When you were playing with your kitchen set, you said "Cook". Then taking the ball from your bowling set, into the pan of your little kitchen, you said "Cook edd". Hahaha! Genius! Cook egg!

I am so happy when I went online, love. I felt the love from your Ninang Mayang when she praised me for this blog. She said that it is a testimony of my love for you and Daddy. For other people to see that, is like being understood from the heart. She has, like other friends, seen that this blog wasn't for my own popularity after all but to prove my love. Then there was Tito Jim's cheerful comment on one of our previous entries. He left two comments and one said that he had thought that strawberry, as a fruit, was sweet until he tasted them. I told him that this is the very reason why I was nicknamed "Strawberry" in Elementary. I had been mistaken for my sweet and simple looks until they had a taste of who I really was. But then they have missed out on the fact that though sour, strawberries prove to be very good to the health, what with the Vitamin C and antioxidants it provides. Exactly my point, Mommy is so "Strawberry!" *wink *wink

We were so amazed and amused when on our way home, waiting for Nohnong to finish closing the cafe, you looked out of the cab and into a group of guys drinking. You told them "Saba!" Whoa! Touchy! Hahah! It's a good thing those guys in the neighborhood have become our regular customers then friends, they didn't take offense when you shut them up.

Coming home, you were so eager to go over your clothes again. You attempted to wear it over your head saying "Mommy desh. Yes?" No. No to "desh" because you and I weren't going anywhere but at home to rest and to watch RAMONA and BEEZUS. It's a feel good movie and was good enough for you and I. Too good in fact we had a little cryfest. I thought you wouldn't catch me crying over the sisters Ramona and Beezus who just lost their cat, thereupon realizing the importance of life and everything mushy. You joined me in the cry fest but this time, you forced yourself to cry. Quite convincing you were, just like a movie star! You even hugged me! Suddenly, my tears dried up only to be beaten by what seemed your never ending tears.

I must admit the movie is rather tear-inducing. It follows the story of a girl named Ramona who has by chance, named her sister Beatrice, Beezus. Cute how that happens in real life. Like Nahnang's "Jaijai" was supposed to be "Gelgel" but your Uncle Neil couldn't pronounce "l" thus "Jaijai". So that's what happened to Beezus, whose sister was a troublemaker unlike herself. I do have to comment that they could have just at least named it RAMONA since it largely focused on the misadventures of the little girl. She had such an imagination, a character about her, which I can relate to because when I was her age, I often escaped with my imagination. Even until now. Her parents do remind me of Mamilou when she scolded me for running away from reality. What adults don't understand is that, this is a means for coping or defense mechanism. I would understand had you one rich imagination for it is quite helpful for creativity, should you need it in later life. That is why, thanks to mine, I am rather apt in the arts.

Anyway, so Ramona makes the cutest of facial expressions, I can just imagine you when you will be her age. Even now as you aren't two years old yet, you make quite the theatrics. Like when I put the DVD on, and the 20th CENTURY FOX logo was up in the screen with it's theme song, you hummed along with it as you raised your hands like you were Charice Pempengco in concert. As I clap you on the back for that, I clap myself on the back for innovating on our late night snack! From an ordinary tuna sandwich, I added crisp and flavor to it with a cracker of ONION CHIVES flavor. You loved it so much, finished more that I had expected you to consume. I'll take that as a compliment!

JAMantic of the Day:
Coming home, the residence dogs were waiting for us by the gate, like the previous nights. The other day you called them, saying "Side! Dob Side!" to get them inside. Tonight, you told them to sit. "Sit! Dob sit!" Hahahah! Did they obey? No. I don't think they heard your voice but nice try though. There is always a next time.

Your Mommy,
